Overview

The word ‘anesthesia’ means ‘absence of sensations’ The  aim of anesthesia is to make the operation site insensitive and adequately relaxed to protect the patient from harmful reflexes, so that an operation can be performed safely and without pain and undesirable shock. This branch of medical sciences has come to the forefront of development with the advent of modern anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment. Anesthesiologist undertakes patient care for very advanced surgeries on very sick patients- the age group ranging from the premature newborn to the old. This requires skilled anesthesia and post- operative care.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE

Brief Description of the Course

Whenever any procedures are performed under anesthesia, patients require continuous monitoring and care. This involves the use of modern equipments that can only be operated with the help of well-trained and competent anesthesia technologists. The course is designed to train students in the various skills that are excepted in an anesthesia technologist. The course involves hands-on training in the use or setting- up/ operation of

  • Various types of anesthesia machines and ventilators.
  • Cautery/Diathermy machine, tourniquet machine
  • Ventilator
  • Pulse oximeter, Capnography, E.C.G machine
  • Invasive monitors, defibrillator, syringe pump, etc.
  • Drugs and needles for different types of blocks needed for anesthesia and analgesia

The course is conducted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA)/ Bharat Sevak Samaj (BSS) and is run in accordance with their guidelines by Asian Institute of Allied Health Sciences. Rules and regulations framed by Asian Institute of Allied Health Sciences for this purpose will be binding on the students.

Aims

The aim of this course is to produce trained personnel to assist the anesthesiologists in various modalities of patient care whenever any procedure is performed under anesthesia inside the operation theatre or outside theatre.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to.

  • Independently set up or operate equipment used in administering anesthesia or monitoring patients who are under the influence of anesthesia.
  • Assist anesthesiologists in the set up or use of various types of equipment used in the operation theatre, recovery room and intensive care unit.

Eligibility

  • Basic educational qualification. The applicant should have passed in 10+2 or its equivalent having also passed in each of the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology from a recognized university or Board Examination.
  • The candidate must have completed 17 years of age and must be less than 25 years of age on the date of commencement of the course.
